Dental Insurance is available
to individuals, families and employee groups.
For employee groups, you will need to provide us an employee census and
some basic information regarding your goals for the offered plans.
For individuals and families, you can actually get quotes, compare
plans and apply for the coverage right here on the website.
There are basically two types of dental insurance. HMO dental plans
such as Humana One C550 and Safeguard (you must call the
office for Safeguard) have rich benefits and no waiting periods for
major services. Rates are competitive, but you must use the HMO's
panel of dentists.
PPO
dental plans such as Delta,
Dental Select, Humana Preventive Plus and United Healthcare are less
restrictive regarding the panel of dentists
and can provide you and your family valuable coverage.
Dental HMO Plans (DHMO)
• There's no deductible to meet, and no annual dollar maximum.
In
most cases, no claim forms to file, and no waiting period for coverage.
• No copayments are required for most diagnostic and
preventive
services.
• Each family member chooses his or her own network dentist.
• Second opinions are available at no charge when we arrange
them.
• Referrals are not required for members or their covered
dependents to receive care from a Network Orthodontist.
Members will be covered for most preventive services, including two
exams and cleanings per year, X-rays, and two fluoride treatments for
children. In addition, members can select a participating pediatric
dentist as a primary care dentist for dependent children under age
seven and no referral is needed. Based on your plan design, coverage
for braces (orthodontia) for children and adults may be included.
All network dentists complete a credentialing process.
PPO — Managed
Care With Flexibility
Like other kinds of managed care, Preferred Provider Organizations have
“networks” of dental professionals. The network of
dentists, orthodontists, and other care providers agree to accept
reduced fees from the PPO plan. In return, the providers get more
business. The PPO plan pays out less money in claims, and plan members
pay less in premiums.
But unlike other managed care plans, PPO plans still cover you when you
see a dentist outside the plan network. You’ll save more
money by
staying within the network. But you don't need to get referrals or wait
for plan approvals to go seek treatment. This flexibility is a big part
of why PPO plans are so popular.
